In the historic center of Maastricht, the iconic Kruisheren Hotel, part of Oostwegel Collection, is being readied for the next 20 years. Twenty years after its opening, the five-star hotel is undergoing a thorough renovation, combined with broader plans to redevelop the site. Group Jansen is handling the renovation of the rooms, bringing its integrated approach to finishes and techniques to bear.

More than a renovation
After two decades as an international reference in hospitality, it is time to renew the hotel and align it with the expectations of today’s guest. Comfort, experience and sustainability play an increasingly important role in this. The renovation of the rooms is therefore an essential part of a broader master plan to future-proof the entire site.
Thus, not only the interior is being addressed, but also the hotel’s surroundings are being reconsidered. The monastery garden and the historic pandhof will be given a new interpretation as high-quality outdoor spaces that bring tranquility, experience and connection. With this, Oostwegel Collection wants to position the hotel even more strongly as a high-end destination within the city.
Tight planning, integrated approach
A construction team approach was chosen for the renovation of 58 rooms, which runs from February to May 2026. During this phase, design, techniques and execution are intensively coordinated, so that execution afterwards can proceed efficiently and without surprises. This preparation is crucial, as the timing is particularly tight and leaves little margin for error or delay.
Construction will begin in June and should be completed by December, good for a deadline of barely 20 weeks. During that time, rooms and bathrooms will be completely renovated, including finishes, techniques and custom furniture by Jansen Joinery. That combination of speed and precision requires thorough planning and seamless cooperation between all parties involved.

Respect for heritage, focus on quality
“Renovating in an iconic building like the Kruisheren Hotel requires not only technical expertise, but also respect for history and a keen eye for detail,” says Sarai Bervoets, CCO at Group Jansen. “Every intervention must be thoughtfully done so that the character of the building is preserved while meeting the highest contemporary standards.”
“Our integrated approach allows us to speed up without sacrificing quality and ensures a coherent end result.” With this renovation, the hotel will once again be made ready for the future, with a strong balance between heritage, design and contemporary comfort, and will remain a leading destination within the European hospitality sector.
Technology and customization hand in hand
The renovation goes beyond an aesthetic update. The hotel is also being made completely future-proof on a technical level. New electrical installations and lighting provide more comfort and energy efficiency, while HVAC and sanitary techniques are carefully integrated within the existing structure. Every detail is tuned to the overall concept of the room.
In addition, customization plays a key role in the guest’s experience. Jansen Joinery realizes the fixed furniture, from bedside cabinets and closets to bed panels and desks. Those elements are specifically designed for this project and perfectly match the architecture and look of the hotel.
