Carrying out a renovation at an airport? That’s not something you do every day. Yet that’s exactly what Group Jansen will soon be doing at The Loft, a lounge spanning over 2,000 m² at Brussels Airport. From new technologies and ceilings to a completely redesigned layout, the space is undergoing a thorough transformation.
Based on a clear philosophy
The Loft is located on the so-called “airside” of Brussels Airport. This means it is past customs and passport control. Premium travelers on Brussels Airlines and its partner airlines can work, relax, take a shower, enjoy a massage, or even take a nap in specially designed sleep pods. Starting in January 2026, this entire experience will be reinvented. The opening of the renovated lounge is scheduled for the fall of 2026.
The renovation goes far beyond new furniture or a fresh coat of paint. All floors and ceilings will be replaced, the entire layout will be redesigned, and the technical systems will also undergo a thorough upgrade. In addition, Group Jansen will handle the full coordination of all partners involved.
More Than Just a Refresh
“This project perfectly illustrates what Group Jansen does best: carrying out complex renovations in an environment where operations continue as usual,” says account manager Dimas Van Baelen. “The client was looking for a partner who not only carries out the work but also contributes technical expertise and takes care of everything. It was precisely that integrated approach that ultimately made the difference.”
Working Among the Airplanes
Of course, an airport is no ordinary construction site. The lounge is located in a highly secure zone with extensive access procedures and safety regulations. To ensure that logistics ran smoothly, site managers Tom Rutten and Kristof De Bruycker even obtained a special airport driver’s license that allows them to move around on the tarmac between aircraft and operational zones.
It will also be a challenging project from a technical standpoint. The existing space features significant differences in floor levels, and the hospitality area consists of numerous complex shapes and custom-made elements. Some of the relaxation pods are even designed to resemble an airplane cabin. In addition, the high comfort requirements, extensive technical systems, and strict fire safety standards present a complex challenge.
Strong teamwork
Various Makers and Builders within Group Jansen are contributing to the project. Jansen Decoration is handling the flooring and painting works, Jansen Energy Solutions is responsible for the electrical installations, Jansen Joinery is installing the wood paneling, Jansen Prefab is providing prefabricated solutions, and Jansen Wall Solutions is installing a glass partition. The project manager is Jan Vanduffel.
The fact that Group Jansen ultimately emerged as the winner of an extensive international bidding process is the result of strong teamwork, according to Dimas: “Lufthansa, together with Brussels Airlines, chose us because we made the best impression with our references, technical expertise, and track record. Especially after a tour of our facility in Oudsbergen, they were completely convinced. This is great proof that our craftsmanship also makes an impression on the international stage.”
