Allen & Overy Shearman
Brussels

For the prestigious law firm Allen & Overy Shearman, Group Jansen realized a thorough transformation of the offices in Brussels. What was once a classic office environment with concrete, light gray carpets and standard furniture, is now a warm, modern working environment where comfort, acoustics and appearance are key. The design was elaborated by architect Steven Mestdagh, while Group Jansen was responsible for the execution and coordination of the various disciplines. New floors, Painting works, custom made furniture, techniques, … were carefully integrated into one coherent whole.

Challenge

The renovated offices not only had to look more modern, but also feel warmer and more pleasant. Therefore, a strong focus was placed on high-quality materials, acoustic comfort and a pared-down interior experience.

Behind the sleek design, moreover, was a technically challenging project. Especially the curved ceilings and organic shapes required a thorough coordination between finishing and techniques. Moreover, existing installations had to be completely eliminated without compromising the architectural concept. In addition, acoustic wall panels were integrated in each office to guarantee peace and privacy.

“This project shows perfectly what Group Jansen is strong at: realizing complex total projects in which interior, techniques and execution completely flow into one another. Thanks to our integrated operation, we were able to respond flexibly to changes while guaranteeing a high level of finishing,” opens project manager Jan Vanduffel.

Result

The cooperation between Group Jansen and Allen & Overy Shearman goes back many years. Over the past decade, Group Jansen has carried out several projects for the Antwerp and Brussels offices. This project lasted a year and a half and included the complete refurbishment of 5 floors in Brussels.

A key meeting place at the renovated Allen & Overy Shearman office is the Grand Café on the ground floor. This handsome space is the social heart of the office and was developed as a stylish hospitality environment. From a lunch among colleagues, informal meeting with clients to after work drinks: it’s all possible. In addition, a fully equipped Academy was integrated in the basement, where training courses and presentations are organized.

The reception desk also immediately catches the eye. For this, an innovative combination of laser-cut insulating foam and a mortex finish was used, providing a unique texture and appearance.

As with many Group Jansen projects, the strength here was in the integrated approach. Jansen Joinery, Jansen Energy Solutions and Jansen Technics HVAC-S, among others, worked closely together to perfectly coordinate the design, techniques and finishing. This made it possible to switch quickly and monitor quality throughout the process.

Responding to the day-to-day operations of an international law firm

“The revamped offices not only had to look more modern, but also had to respond perfectly to the daily operation of an international law firm. On the one hand, lawyers must be able to focus and work in peace and quiet. On the other hand, the environment must offer sufficient radiance, discretion and comfort to receive clients professionally. Therefore, a harmonious mix of individual workstations, smaller office spaces and stylish meeting rooms was strongly emphasized.”
