Belfius
Ghent
In Ghent, near Sint-Pieters station, Group Jansen transformed the communal dining area of the Belfius building into a warm, multifunctional meeting place. What for years was an underused refectory evolved into a flexible space where eating, meeting, presenting and events come together seamlessly.
Challenge
The first floor was originally used exclusively as a refectory. The space felt cold and white, lacked atmosphere and was hardly used outside of lunch hours. Belfius and building manager Philadelphus wanted to change that.
The challenge was clear: maintain the capacity of the dining area, add additional functions such as training, presentations and receptions, increase conviviality and create maximum flexibility without fixed subdivisions.
Moreover, the space had a complex shape, fixed technical structures and an all-glass facade that brought in plenty of natural light but offered little privacy.
Result
LUBDUB, the design department of Group Jansen, chose a smart zoning in three recognizable zones that reinforce each other without losing the open character. A more intimate bar and kitchen area with wood accents and warm ceiling elements. A central flex zone where tables and chairs are easily rearranged for lunches, training or presentations. A lounge area on the facade with seat corners, curtains and greenery for informal meetings.
Materials such as wood, earth tones and different floor finishes provide warmth and identity. 28 playful lantern fixtures enhance character. Additional acoustic interventions, absorbent wall panels, curtains and soft materials guarantee comfort even during crowded events.
Thanks to Group Jansen’s integrated approach, different entities worked closely together. Jansen Energy Solutions handled the electrical installations, Jansen Smart Solutions integrated home automation and audiovisual control, and Jansen Joinery realized the customization and kitchen construction. In just six weeks, the space was completely transformed into a place that is aesthetically, technically and functionally right.
The power of smart zoning
“By visually dividing the space into three distinct zones, we maintain the open feel, but at the same time create recognizability and flexibility. The result is an environment that effortlessly adapts to every moment of use.”
