Right in the vibrant heart of Brussels, on Old Grain Market, BX. Downtown Hostel opened its doors. A contemporary youth hostel where affordable accommodation goes hand in hand with design, atmosphere and identity. Group Jansen took on the complete realization and provided a coherent whole in which interior, techniques and finishing are perfectly matched.
Challenge
A hostel makes specific demands. The rooms are intensively used, must be maintenance-friendly and at the same time radiate atmosphere and experience. For BX. Downtown Hostel a clear visual ambition was added: a distinct color palette and striking accents.
In addition, the combination of dormitories, private rooms, sanitary blocks, restaurant, bar and reception required tight planning and thorough coordination. Every detail had to be right, without compromising operations or timing. So the challenge was both in the technical complexity and in translating the architectural vision into a sustainable and coherent end result.

BX. Downtown Hostel oozes character. The combination of warm tones and distinct color accents creates a playful yet thoughtful look and feel. The bar and entrance desk are real eye-catchers and immediately set the tone upon arrival. In every room you will discover a surprising twist somewhere.
All joinery elements and fixed furniture were fully custom realized by Jansen Joinery, perfectly adapted to the intensive use of a hostel environment. Jansen Prefab supplied bespoke prefabricated day edges, which not only ensured a tight finish but also efficient execution on site.
Thanks to the thorough total coordination by Jansen Building Projects, finishing, interior and techniques fit together seamlessly. From dormitories to common areas and from reception to bar, everything forms one cohesive whole. A durable, functional and visually strong hostel ready for intensive use and a wide international audience.
