After 47 years, Shopping 1 looks completely different. The expansion and renovation of this shopping center were a resounding success.

From 2013 to 2015, Group Jansen was contracted by client Wereldhave for the finishing of the central corridors. Both the plasterboard ceilings (acoustic or not) with indirect lighting, the wood-clad columns, and the tiling for the public restrooms clearly bore the Jansen mark. A number of eye-catchers, such as oversized canaries and artworks, were installed via Jansen Building Projects ordered and installed by us after delivery.

In 2019, the former Carrefour in Shopping 1 was converted into an Albert Heijn, six smaller shops, and an inner courtyard. The design of this inner courtyard was realized by Creneau International. Together with them, we gave the interior finishing of this shopping center a historical touch.

What about the ceiling design, for example? We installed acoustic ceilings to reduce reverberation in the shopping center. The various facets (beams, skylights, etc.) against these ceilings form a nice metaphor and refer to the rugged mine shafts as part of Genk’s rich history.

The floors also received due attention. For instance, we ground down the old tiles and used them to create new ones. Nostalgia and sustainability at their best! The creative motif of these floors became an additional trigger to attract customers.

If you find yourself on level +1 of this shopping center, you’ll immediately spot a beautiful honeycomb ceiling that, along with the furniture, bears a strong Jansen signature. Well done, Jansen Joinery!

Group Jansen went all the way during the renovation of this shopping center: from demolition, flooring, and painting to the technical installations. Mission accomplished!
